Sweet like Lille / Słodkie Lille

I went to Lille for Christmas last year. I heard it was a very nice place and it fully met my expectations. I did not expect, however, that I would fall head over heels in love with it. Lille isn't just an adorable small French town - it is a decent size city with its special aura. The streets of the old town seem to have no end, and the people... well ... they really came across as very friendly and helpful. I tried to speak French at all times and it worked wonders. Simple as that. One of my French friends told me, that people of Northern France have much warmer hearts than the rest of the country. Some say that it's all due to poor weather, so the locals try to make up for it with their attitude. I was warmly welcomed indeed, even though it was December :)

Zeszłe Święta Bożego Narodzenia spędziłam w Lille. Przed wyjazdem słyszłam, że jest to bardzo ładne miejsce i ujrzałam to, czego oczekiwałam. Aczkolwiek nie spodziewałam się, że po prostu się w nim zakocham! Lille to nie jest jakieś śliczne fancuskie miasteczko. To duże miasto ze swoją własną niepowtarzalną energią. Słodkie uliczki Starego Miasta wydają się nie mieć końca. Ludzie... Dla mnie byli bardzo przyjacielscy i uprzejmi. Oczywiście starałam się porozumiewać po francusku przy każdej okazji i to wystarczyło. 

Jedna moja francuska koleżanka powiedziała mi, że ludzie z Pólnocnej Francji mają "cieplejsze serca" w porównaniu do tych z reszty kraju. Rekompensują tym ich pogodę, która nie jest najlepsza. Rzeczywiście. Czułam się ciepło powitana w tym  mieście, mimo ze było to w grudniu:) 

 

Another reason to fell in love with Lille is that it's just over an hour train journey from London St Pancras. Sweet weekend escape!
