The Wood / Las

Yesterday, I went for a walk to a wood with my mum. For me, it's an unusual wood, because is in my hometown and surely it was the first one I've ever been to when I was a kid.

Wczoraj byłam na spacerze w lesie z moją mamą. Jest to las dla mnie niezwykły, bo znajduje się w moim rodzinnym mieście i pewnie był to pierwszy las, który poznałam jako dziecko.

 
Apart from fresh air and singing birds the wood gives me peace of mind and this wonderful feeling, that a moment is the only thing that counts.

Oprócz świeżego powietrza i śpiewu ptaków las daje mi także wyciszenie i to piękne wrażene, że liczy się tylko chwila.

For most of us it's obvious, that the wood is a place of integration with nature and metaphoric symbol of fairy tells or "scary" stories for naughty kids.

To, że dla wielu z nas las jest miejscem zespolenia z naturą, metaforycznym symbolem bajek lub historii "strasznych" opowieści dla niegrzecznych dzieci jest dla wielu z nas oczywiste.

But to me, the wood also makes me think about a crime and mystery. In Poland for example, numerous battles and war murders were commited in the woods. I have a reason in mentioning this. In the wood on these photos there is a place of war crime. During WW2 Nazis exterminated here war prisoners from POW Camp, which existed on territory of Chełm. There were Soviet, Polish, Italian soldiers and others. 
 
Wood "covers" those events and neutralise them with silence. The energy of the woods needs to be respected and  taken as it is.

Mnie również las kojarzy się ze zbrodnią i tajemnicą. W Polsce np wiele bitew i morderstw wojennych zostało popełonionych w lasach. Mam cel, w przywołaniu tych skojarzeń. W tym lesie istnieje miejsce straceń, kiedy to Hitlerowscy Niemcy w czasie II Wojny Światowej eksterminowali więźniów z obozu jenieckiego, który znajdował się na terenie Chełma. Byli to żołnierze Sowieccy, Polscy, Włoscy i innych narodowaości. 
 
Lasy kryją swe "złe" zdarzenia i neutralizują je ciszą. Energię lasu, trzeba szanować i przyjąć jaką jest.
